Tlmočenie príkazov a žiadostí

Keď chceme tlmočiť príkaz či žiadosť, môžeme použiť sloveso ako 'tell' s to-vetou: He told me to go away. Vzor je nasledujúci: sloveso + nepriamy predmet + to-veta. Nepriamy predmet je osoba, na ktorú je hovorené. Ďalšie slovesá použité k tlmočeniu príkazov a žiadostí týmto spôsobom sú: command, order, warn, ask, advise, invite, beg, teach a forbid.

Žiadosti o predmety

Žiadosti o predmety sú tlmočené pomocou vzorca "asked for" + predmet.

Návrhy

Návrhy sú najčastejšie tlmočené použitím slovies suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, a propose, nasledovanými 'that' vetou. 'That' a 'should' sú v týchto vetách voliteľné, ako je ukázané v prvých dvoch príkladoch nižšie. Nezabudnite, že suggest, recommend a propose môžu byť tiež nasledované gerundiom, aby bol eliminovaný nepriamy predmet (prijímateľ návrhu), a teda bol návrh slušnejší. Toto použitie gerundia je ilustrované vo štvrtom a piatom príklade nižšie.
